Clean Air Cornwall
was
formed in November 2001 as an autonomous committee to continue
the progress made by the former Air Quality Improvement
Committee, a Chamber of Commerce economic renewal initiative.
Through dialogue, we encourage industries to reduce air
emissions, and we open the lines of communication between local
industries and residents.
The administration of Clean Air Cornwall has been
supported through a grant provided by the Ontario Trillium
Foundation to the St. Lawrence River Institute of Environmental
Sciences. |
The
mandate of Clean Air Cornwall, endorsed by a resolution of Cornwall
City Council, is as follows:
-
To
encourage and collaborate with industries and others in the
development and implementation of policies and programs that
promote a clean outdoor air environment
-
To
review industries with significant air emissions including those
reporting under Environment Canada’s National Pollutant Release
Inventory (NPRI);
-
To
participate in the Provincial Environmental Assessment Process for
Air Approvals where deemed appropriate;
-
To
consult with other stakeholders and agencies including the Ontario
Ministry of Environment (MOE), the
Eastern Ontario Health Unit, and City of Cornwall Departments in
matters pertaining to outdoor air quality;
-
To
communicate with the Council of the City of Cornwall in matters
pertaining to outdoor air quality; and
-
To
prepare an annual progress report on the activities of the
Cornwall Clean Air Committee.
