Welcome!!
Since 1997 the St. Lawrence River Institute is pleased to host Eco-Friend Summer Day Camp @Cooper Marsh Conservation
Area.
These camps challenge participants to learn about science and
the natural environment in a hands-on, minds-on manner. Seven
new exciting one-week sessions will be introduced for children
aged 6 to 11. These

way.
All camp sessions will include activities such as hiking, frog
catching, pond dipping, games, crafts, skits, scientific
experiments and much, much more! This summer, seven new
and exciting one-week sessions will be run for children ages 6
to 11. The camps will be held ONLY at Cooper Marsh. Eco-Friends Summer Day
Camp is primarily in English; however, some activities will be
run in both French and English during each of the seven weeks. View photo

Space is limited to 20 Eco-Friends per
session, and enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Eco-Friends Summer Camp 2009
Note: that all weeks will include some pond dipping, frog
catching, science experiments, nature walks games, arts and
crafts and so much more!!!
Week 1 -
Gross Anatomy (June 29-July3)
Let’s kick things off by becoming investigators for a week! This
week we will take a look at how our animal friends have adapted
in order to survive! We are going to have tons of fun learning,
playing games and doing various crafts dedicated to marsh
wildlife.
Week 2 -
Call of the Wild (July 6-10)
From hissing snakes to hooting owls, discover the fascinating
ways animals communicate. This week we will learn imitate our
favourite bird calls, howl like wolves and dance like bees. Fun
and creative crafts, games and activities will focus on animal
behaviour.
Week 3 -
Gone Fishin’! (July 13-17)

Come learn all about our scaly friends and other aquatic life
this week. From fish to frogs and turtles to toads, you’ll get
to learn and see it all at Cooper Marsh. Be ready for a wet and
wild week.
Week 4 -
Bugs and Mud!!! (July 20-24)
Wiggly worms, beautiful butterflies and spindly spiders! Let’s
discover the crazy and wonderful ways insects have become the
most fascinating creatures on Earth. We will also get our hands
dirty while digging up the importance of dirt in our beautiful
marsh.
Week 5 - Do
to popular demand - Gone Fishin!!! is offered again
(July 27-31)
Come learn all about our scaly friends and other aquatic life
this week. From fish to frogs and turtles to toads, you’ll get
to learn and see it all at Cooper Marsh. Be ready for a wet and
wild week. Make a sweet set of binoculars using recycled
materials! Spend the week frog catching and pond-dipping.
Participate in "Turtle Day" with a cool presentation by a guest
speaker!
Week 6 -
Protecting Paradise (August 4-7)
We’re on a quest to save the planet and we need you! Come learn
how you can make a difference and help make sure our marsh stays
Green. We are going to have so much fun this week making
eco-friendly crafts, doing activities and playing games!
Week 7 -
Problem Solvers (August 10-14)
Come learn how everyday environmental problems can only be
solved through a combination of science and engineering! This
week you will have the chance to perform tons of cool
experiments while hanging out with professional scientists and
engineers!
Come and appreciate the many ways that Cooper
Marsh is essential for many animals and plants. You will learn
why wetlands are so important and how you can keep them healthy.
