Title: Nutrients and Canadian waters: linking science and decision-making

Dr. Patricia Chambers is a Research Scientist with Environment Canada at the Canada Centre for Inland Waters in Burlington, Ontario and Chief of the Biogeochemistry Project.  Dr. Chambers received her B.Sc. from Trent University and her Ph.D. from the University of St. Andrews, Scotland.  She has since worked in university (McGill, Alberta) and government (Saskaton, Burlington) labs across the country, as well as field sites from BC to PEI and abroad.  Her research has focused on a variety of scientific problems, in particular the ecological effects of nutrient loading from agricultural operations, industries and sewage treatment plants on the chemistry and biology of lakes and rivers.   On behalf of the Canadian government, she has led national assessments to investigate the impacts of nutrient loading on Canadian ecosystems, and to develop approaches for setting nutrient criteria.

Ethan Meleg Biography

Ethan Meleg is a professional outdoor photographer from Ontario, Canada. He specializes in photos of outdoor recreation, natural landscapes, birds and wildlife.

Ethan grew up near world famous birding hotspot Point Pelee National Park and often skipped classes to chase songbirds during migration. By the time he was a teenager, he had developed an in-depth knowledge of nature and joined the champion  Kowa 'Canadian' Birding Team. At 19, he received a hand-me-down camera from his parents and began to learn the basics of nature photography. In between watching birds and taking photos, he miraculously completed a degree in Environment and Resource Studies at Trent University. Before becoming a pro photographer, Ethan enjoyed a 10 year career as a communications specialist and manager with Parks Canada, working at 3 different national parks in Ontario.

A self-taught photographer, Ethan's photos have been published by National Geographic, Ranger Rick, Forbes, Canadian Geographic, Popular Photography, Wyman Calendars, Lonely Planet, Cottage Life, Birder's World, Wildbird, National Wildlife, Nature Canada, ON Nature, Canoe & Kayak and many more. He also writes the humour column in every issue of Outdoor Photography Canada magazine.

Ethan has just finished a year-long photo adventure traveling around North America in a VW camper van. His great passion in life is exploring the natural world through his camera, whether on exciting trips or in his own backyard.
