Science & Nature Speaker Series

held at the Cornwall Public Library

Wednesday, January 28th, 7:00pm

Marie-France Noel,

Eastern Ontario’s Model Forest

“Our Species at Risk”

Say “species at risk,” and many Canadians think of Polar Bears or Whooping Cranes. But there are many animals, plants, insects and birds at risk in our own region. Marie-France Noël is the species at risk outreach co-ordinator for Eastern Ontario’s Model Forest program and she’ll tell us which aspects of our local natural world need attention.

Marie-France Noel is a new graduate from the Université du Québec à Montréal in Environmental Sciences.  In the past few summers, she has worked on different species at risk such as the piping plover bird, the Blandings’ turtle and the Coeur d’Alène salamander.  Her field work has brought her to British Columbia, the Maritimes, Québec and Ontario while working with different organizations such as the Canadian Wildlife Service, the University of British Columbia, Parks Canada and the National Capital Commission.
